Who we are
The Model Kit Shop is run by 0 gauge enthusiasts for enthusiasts, led by James Aitken. We have been modelling 7mm scale for 30 years or more, and have built many of the kits offered. We have a retail shop in Sudbury at our partner Perfect Miniatures. The address is 86-88 Friars Street, Sudbury, Essex, CO10 2OJ. If you want to visit, we recommend that you phone 01787 375884 beforehand to make sure there is someone there to help you.
Please do not visit us at the Sanderum House address, as this is just an administration office. We also trade at shows with an 0 gauge bias.
Products
The site is designed to be an on-line product directory showing as many 0 gauge and 7mm scale products as we know about and where the traders have agreed to have their information displayed. Information about the kits, and what you will need to finish the kits is available through the site. For kits that we sell, we intend to offer the best prices.
So what is different about this site compared to the other web sites listing railway models? There are customer reviews so that people can say that a kit is easy to put together or not as the case may be. We have found review sites for hotels and holiday places essential reading before booking and you learn to eliminate those reviews where someone has been unlucky. There is a customer gallery where customers can place pictures of their models with a description. We want to encourage both because we think that modellers like to help each other. But most usefully we think, is that when you select a kit, the site will list all the extra items you need to finish that kit off, including the right wheels if the kit does not contain them, the right paints for each period, and which transfers are needed. This will take some time to do for all kits, as we need to collate the information. We have completed all of Parkside's kits for example. We will make a point of stocking the extra items so that they can all be ordered at the same time. The site has better pictures of the models than most other sites. We have been staggered by how many traders have no pictures of finished models of their own kits, painted and lettered. So where we can we have photographed our own models for the site.
